There was a brief mention of the Republicans who turned away from Bush on the ports deal, but in the end it was the threat of Republicans voting for legislation against the deal or even overriding a veto that forced Bush to abandon the deal...was it a case of Good Republicans turning chicken in or rats abandoning a sinking ship?

I never had any trouble with the ports deal per se, I was just amused that an administration bent on promoting free trade was allowing them to be taken over by a state-run company. Does that mean that there are certain things that governments - non-democratic goverments at that - can do better than private enterprise?

And yes, Bush left himself open to a vicious, unwarranted attack, he should not be surprised that he was viciously & unwarrantedly attacked. You would think that Karl Rove was moonlighting for the Democrats they way this came down.
